About the asset: Our clients assets / fields are located in the UKCS with a number of tiebacks to a floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) with oil export using shuttle tankers. Gas export is via a route through a secondary Platform via a pipeline. The current gas export / import route infrastructure may CoP sometime between 2023-2024 and is to be decommissioned.
Katoni’s role in supporting the client: Katoni hasundertaken study work to refine the start-up requirements and stay-up requirements for the FPSO to address gas deficiency and thereby negating the need for a gas export / import pipeline system.
Understanding the client’s needs & delivery: Gas is currently required on in order to sustain production to supply the FPSO with power and associated gas for key operations and is also required to restart production via gas lift.
Katoni carried out a study on the existing electrical equipment to supplement the main generation and reduce the dependency on imported gas for the GTGs. Furthermore, study work has been carried out for the proposed new equipment to supplement the main generation including new generation, changing out of the alternator and the installation of a new transformer.
The Katoni Way: Using standardised approaches developed by Katoni, studies were carried out on current load scenarios, the required power and how this is distributed. The fuel requirements based on different operating scenarios with Gas Turbines and Diesel Generators are then estimated.
It was found that there is significant fuel gas reduction when using one GTG supplemented with one or two Diesel Generators compared to the current operating scenario of using two GTGs. This is accomplished through the reduction in load on the GTGs to allow the platform to operate on only one GTG rather than two.
