The Hummingbird FPSO owned by Teekay Petrojarl is located in the North Sea. Spirit Energy is the operator of the Chestnut field.
Katoni’s role in supporting Teekay
Katoni performed a multidiscipline FEED study to assess options to increase the capacity of the water injection system on the Hummingbird FPSO. The project objective was to increase water injection capacity from 20,000bpd to a practical maximum in as short a timeframe as possible without excessive disruption and modification to the existing facilities.
Collaboration in action
Understanding Teekay’s and Spirit’s needs - Cost and particularly schedule were key for this project as the new Chestnut well which had started production and was supported by water injection had an estimated life span of 3 years. It was therefore imperative to deliver a fast track upgrade solution to make the project viable. For every 5,000bpd water injected an expected return of 800bpd oil production was expected.
Delivery – Our multi-discipline team evaluated six design cases, performed an offshore survey, collaborated with vendors, developed a FEED study report including dozens of engineering deliverables, an order of magnitude cost estimate and overall project schedule all within a 7-week period.
The Katoni Way – Having identified early the requirement for new water injection pumps which typically have a lead time of 48 to 52 weeks, Katoni collaborated with multiple vendors to find a fast-track and cost-effective solution. A solution was achieved to delivery new water injection pumps within 26 weeks effectively halving the overall project schedule and significantly improving the viability of the project.
Project delivered on time and on budget
