The Foinaven was the first FPSO to be located in the waters off the West of Shetland. Our client was Teekay with their operating partner being BP.
Katoni’s role in supporting Teekay
We supported Teekay on this asset in 2018 and this particular commission was to change out the compressor 3B bundle and casing.
Collaboration in action
Understanding the Teekay’s needs – We were approached to carry out an offshore laser scan survey of the compressor and adjacent steelwork. The client had initially received a proposed scheme from a competitor which we were tasked to review during the survey. The initial scheme was disregarded, and our experienced survey team conceptually designed a much safer option, which was accepted by the client then carried forward through detailed design.
Delivery – Despite being tasked with an extremely tight turnaround for the detailed design phase, the steelwork was successfully installed on the platform a month ahead of schedule. To meet the deadline set by the client the deliverables were limited to; a 3D laser scan, structural analysis of the existing and temporary steelwork, steelwork fabrication and rigging arrangement drawings, LOLER Lift Plans and an MTO.
The Katoni Way – At the early stage of the structural steelwork design we contacted the fabricator to prompt them to order the required section sizes and lengths. The design incorporated the use of 8 No. 30te telescopic jacks, 2 No. bespoke 2te forked clevis rams, and 4 No. 3.2te tirfors, which we sourced during detailed design to ensure availability and reduce vendor lead time.
Project delivered on time and on budget
