The Foinaven is the first FPSO to be located in the waters West of Shetland. Our client was Teekay with operating partners BP.

Katoni’s role in supporting Teekay

We supported Teekay on this asset in 2018 and this particular commission was to replace the access platform above the metering area.

Collaboration in action

Understanding the Teekay’s needs - The client advised that the steelwork at this access platform was badly corroded. Unfortunately, there was no as built drawings of the existing platform available, therefore we carried out an offshore survey to determine the steelwork, dimensions and what items required to be temporarily supported while the destruct and construct activities were underway.

Delivery – During the offshore survey it was identified that the ladder with backscratcher and grating panels appeared to have been replaced more recently and were therefore retained for re-use. There were floodlights which eluminated the metering area and other electrical equipment attached to the platform steelwork which required temporarily supported by scaffolding prior to and during construction.

The Katoni Way – The existing platform had no vertical member at one corner to provide a good support for the floodlights. We increased the rigidity and capacity of the steelwork by now having a vertical member at each of the four corners of the access platform. The access platform was installed in one piece by platform crane to reduce offshore construction time.
