About the Asset
The Tartan Alpha platform is located in blocks 15/16a and 14/20a and is 187 km North East of Aberdeen in 138m of water. The platform was installed in 1979 and the first oil was produced in 1981.
Katoni’s role in supporting the Client
The Helideck perimeter lighting on the Tartan platform was obsolete, failures were occurring and spares were depleted. Further, the existing lights operated at 110Vdc and suitable replacements could not be sourced. Repsol selected a replacement perimeter light product which operated at 240Vac. Katoni supported Repsol in this transition from 110Vdc fittings to 240Vac replacements. This involved the engineering and procurement associated with sourcing a suitable 240Vac UPS supply, installing a new distribution board, wiring modifications and replacing 24 helideck light fittings.
Understanding Client’s Needs & Delivery
Repsol needed to complete this modification to remain compliant with CAP437 ‘Standards for offshore helicopter landing areas’. Obsolescence and a shortage of spares meant a risk of non-compliance which would have compromised helicopter operations. Katoni demonstrated flexibility and urgency to help deliver the modification in the quickest time possible.
The Katoni Way
Katoni’s diligent and skilled team ensured the engineering scope was completed ahead of Client expectations. Our strong relationships with local suppliers ensured that equipment and materials were delivered quicker than usual. When safety systems are at risk of compromise, Katoni strive to exceed expectations and remedy the problem without delay.
