About the asset

The Western Isles FPSO is operated by Dana Petroleum and is located in the Northern North Sea UK producing black oil from fields tied back to the FPSO.

Katoni’s role in supporting Dana Petroleum

We performed a debottlenecking study to investigate the feasibility of increasing the facilities nameplate oil production capacity from 44,000 bbls/day to 48,000 bbls/day (or higher) without impacting the safety, integrity or design life of the asset.

Collaboration in action

Understanding the Dana’s needs - Dana wished to maximise oil production with minimal impact to the existing system and without compromising safety.

Delivery – The study confirmed the name plate capacities of the existing systems, main equipment items, line sizes and safety devices and identified the bottlenecks and remedial works as applicable. Various upgrade options were proposed, and the optimum upgrade scenario was identified which did not require any hardware modifications to achieve 48,000bpd.

The Katoni Way – Katoni used a logical and iterative approach and developed a capacity matrix to clearly illustrate the system bottlenecks, scope, cost and delivery for various incremental gains in oil production. This innovative approach allowed Dana to select the optimal scenario to maximise oil production with negligible cost impact.
