On the 4th September, we celebrated Katoni employee Blair Yule's 10th season at Cove Rangers with a testimonial match against Aberdeen!
The Dons' Shayden Morris opened the scoring, finding the bottom corner with a twenty-three yard shot just before the interval. Cove put up a good battle against the current Scottish Premiership joint leaders, and were unlucky not to level the game in the second half.
Mitchel Megginson forced Ross Doohan into a sharp save with a near-post flick, and shortly after, Liam Parker unleashed a long-range shot that the keeper tipped onto the crossbar. Parker struck the bar again minutes later with a 15-yard effort, and just before Aberdeen's second goal, Arron Darge won the ball, drove into the box, and beat Doohan with a low shot that hit the left post.
Remarkably, Blair only needed 60 minutes to show everybody that maybe retirement isn't such a bad idea after all, before being substituted off. Blair assures us that this was 'at his own request' to 'make sure he had enough energy left to sign autographs after the match'... 🤨
Kevin Nisbet then sealed the game for reds, looping a header over Cove’s Balint Demus just minutes before the final whistle.
We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who attended, and a special thank you to Testimonial Committee, and all at Cove Rangers and Aberdeen FC for making all of this possible and organising such a successful event that couldn't be more deserved.
Congratulations Blair, and here’s to many more achievements ahead! ⚽🏆
