Katoni’s role in supporting the client: Katoni provided the Engineering, Procurement, Construction & Commissioning for installation of an arc detection scheme at the 6.6kV Switchboard on this UKCS asset.
Understanding the client’s needs & delivery: As part of ongoing work to address high Arc Flash Incident Energies on the platform, an arc detection scheme (employing light and current detection) needed to be installed at the Main HV Switchboard.
The following modifications were carried out based on the current usage of each cubicle to avoid unnecessary work offshore on cubicles that may not be put into service:
Light sensors were installed in each active (Online or Offline) switchgear and the existing trip circuit was modified to incorporate a trip signal from the appropriate Arc Flash Relay.
Arc flash relays (8-off total) were installed.
Any circuits currently on long term isolation did not have any modifications made as part of the scope, but sensor channels and trip outputs were allocated on a suitable arc flash relay for future integration into the scheme.
The Katoni Way: Katoni’s standardised project procedures were followed to ensure safe and effective delivery from project kick off to as-building and close out. Katoni completed the following detailed design activities:
Appointing the offshore contractor and working with them to finalise installation details.
Producing construction deliverables including finalised drawings, an equipment schedule and installation bill of materials.
Purchasing the arc detection scheme equipment, and ensuring the appointed offshore vendor submits the required offshore construction method statements and associated documentation.
Producing an offshore implementation plan to allow for CNR to incorporate the project into their shutdown planning.
Producing an approved workpack and commissioning pack including required construction drawings (schematics, bus wiring diagrams, bill of materials, panel layouts etc.).
Witnessing the FAT of the arc flash equipment prior to delivery to Aberdeen.
Arranging offshore vendor personnel and shipping dates for equipment and materials.
Supporting offshore construction from onshore as required.
Once construction is complete, supporting commissioning by the specialist vendor.
